Member Spotlight: AmCham Ghana Secretariat Visits Cargill Ghana

Tema, 27 October 2026

On Tuesday, 27 October 2026, the Secretariat paid a Member Spotlight visit to Platinum Member Cargill Ghana. The team was led by CEO Doris Kafui Afanyedey, with Jane Okyere-Aduachie and Albert Ludwig Nortey Botchway. Managing Director Max Essoh Latte hosted the team at the company’s cocoa processing facility in the Tema Free Zones Enclave.

Cargill has sourced cocoa from Ghana for more than 40 years. Its Tema plant can process about 100,000 tonnes of cocoa beans a year into cocoa liquor, butter and powder for export. The visit was a chance to take stock of Cargill’s progress and new developments, and to see first-hand how Ghanaian cocoa gains value before it leaves the country.

A highlight of the tour was the wastewater treatment plant, a US$2.6 million investment commissioned in October 2025. It treats 150 cubic metres of water a day from cocoa processing to Environmental Protection Authority standards. The treated water is reused on site for landscaping, cleaning and washing solar panels. The plant is part of a wider sustainability programme at the site that includes an air filtration system and solar power, which now meets about 71% of the plant’s energy needs.

Mr. Essoh Latte also briefed the team on the company’s community work this year through Cargill Cares Ghana. In April, it furnished the clinic at Mampong Demonstration School for the Deaf, donated medical supplies, and hosted an Easter lunch for about 600 students. On World Food Day in October, it donated food to the Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind and shared a meal with more than 500 students and staff.

AmCham Ghana thanks Max Essoh Latte and the Cargill Ghana team for their warm hospitality. We value Cargill’s continued partnership and its contribution to value addition in Ghana’s cocoa sector and to U.S.–Ghana commercial ties.

The Member Spotlight series highlights the work of AmCham Ghana member companies and their contribution to Ghana’s economy.

AmCham Ghana’s Consumer Goods, Retail and Agri-Business Committee Reviews Progress and Sets Priorities

Accra, 26 October 2026

The Consumer Goods, Retail and Agri-Business Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce Ghana (AmCham Ghana) met on Monday, 26 October 2026. Members reviewed progress since the last session and agreed priorities for the months ahead.

The meeting was led by Committee Chair Clarence Amenyah, Head of Herbalife Ghana, and Vice Chair Max Essoh Latte, Managing Director of Cargill Ghana. The committee also welcomed a new member representative.

Members heard updates on the Chamber’s engagements with the Food and Drugs Authority and the Ghana Revenue Authority on issues raised by member companies. Discussions covered:

  • the need for reliable industry and trade data to guide investment decisions
  • port congestion and consistent customs classification
  • poultry sourcing, cold-chain capacity and stronger links with local suppliers
  • the impact of the new tax on digital subscriptions, on which the Chamber invites member feedback

Members agreed to share information more actively, to take part in a planned study of members’ economic contribution to Ghana, and to use the Chamber’s trade and investment desk to connect with potential U.S. partners.

AmCham Ghana thanks the committee’s leadership and members for their time and contributions. The committee will continue to raise its members’ interests with the relevant government agencies.
