Tema, 27 October 2026
On Tuesday, 27 October 2026, the Secretariat paid a Member Spotlight visit to Platinum Member Cargill Ghana. The team was led by CEO Doris Kafui Afanyedey, with Jane Okyere-Aduachie and Albert Ludwig Nortey Botchway. Managing Director Max Essoh Latte hosted the team at the company’s cocoa processing facility in the Tema Free Zones Enclave.
Cargill has sourced cocoa from Ghana for more than 40 years. Its Tema plant can process about 100,000 tonnes of cocoa beans a year into cocoa liquor, butter and powder for export. The visit was a chance to take stock of Cargill’s progress and new developments, and to see first-hand how Ghanaian cocoa gains value before it leaves the country.
A highlight of the tour was the wastewater treatment plant, a US$2.6 million investment commissioned in October 2025. It treats 150 cubic metres of water a day from cocoa processing to Environmental Protection Authority standards. The treated water is reused on site for landscaping, cleaning and washing solar panels. The plant is part of a wider sustainability programme at the site that includes an air filtration system and solar power, which now meets about 71% of the plant’s energy needs.
Mr. Essoh Latte also briefed the team on the company’s community work this year through Cargill Cares Ghana. In April, it furnished the clinic at Mampong Demonstration School for the Deaf, donated medical supplies, and hosted an Easter lunch for about 600 students. On World Food Day in October, it donated food to the Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind and shared a meal with more than 500 students and staff.
AmCham Ghana thanks Max Essoh Latte and the Cargill Ghana team for their warm hospitality. We value Cargill’s continued partnership and its contribution to value addition in Ghana’s cocoa sector and to U.S.–Ghana commercial ties.
The Member Spotlight series highlights the work of AmCham Ghana member companies and their contribution to Ghana’s economy.
