Inside ASANA Bar and Kitchen – Accra’s New Elite Asian- Fusion Restaurant

New Asian-Ghanaian bar and restaurant opens at five-star luxury hotel in Accra

Accra, 4 June 2025 – The new ASANA Bar and Kitchen serves a refined take on Asian-fusion cuisine in the heart of Accra. At an exclusive two-day opening event, it previewed the new dining spaces and eateries of its latest culinary venue. In attendance were high-profile delegates, famous personalities and some of the nation’s top food influencers.

The latest addition to the ever-evolving culinary scene at Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra, the sophisticated space offers both indoor and outdoor seating for up to 104 guests and is located near the iconic spiral staircase of the hotel’s grand lobby. Surrounded with palms and potted plants, guests are welcomed into an elegant yet relaxed environment, where contemporary and natural design elements harmoniously converge.

A pristine, textured, white marble bar with distinct vining marks the centre of ASANA Bar and Kitchen, accented by suspended ornate pendant lamps and vibrant red bar stools. Inside, guests can sit at the striking 360-degree marble counter bar or at the cosy lounge area and enjoy a uniquely curated cocktail menu that explores flavours and cultures from the East and West.

Outdoors, the open-air restaurant offers views of the cascading waterfall and greens of the Cedar Garden and blends Asian-inspired dishes with Ghanaian flair, using locally sourced ingredients to create a vibrant and balanced fusion. Guests can expect an experience that is both adventurous and comforting, from small bites to signature plates.

‘Every dish at ASANA tells a story,’ said Felix Otte, Director of Food & Beverage at Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra. ‘Our culinary team has taken great care to balance bold, familiar Ghanaian tastes with subtle Asian nuances. It is a fusion that is exciting, yet deeply respectful of both cultures.’

One menu standout is the Watermelon Gochujang starter that pairs avocado mousse and chilli vinaigrette with watermelon – a dessert fruit widely enjoyed in Ghana. Other unique items on the menu include a delightful Baked Miso Salmon, Pork Bulgogi Quesadillas and a refreshing sorbet dessert made of yams.

To commemorate the launch and the hotel’s ten-year anniversary, ASANA also introduced a signature cocktail – Afe Du – meaning ‘Ten Years’ in Twi, a variety of the Akan language spoken in Ghana. Crafted by the bar’s mixology team, the cocktail combines local infusions with international spirits for a flavour that is both celebratory and symbolic.

Ultimately, the expertise of its service team sets ASANA Bar and Kitchen apart from other dining venues in the city. The waiters and bartenders at ASANA are extensively trained in the food and beverage offerings and can recommend pairings, provide insight into flavour profiles and share the inspiration behind each dish or cocktail. Guests are welcomed with warmth, knowledge and professionalism, making ASANA as much about connection as it is about the cuisine.

‘ASANA represents the culmination of a decade of delivering exceptional moments to our guests, and we wanted to celebrate this milestone with a concept that honours our Ghanaian roots while embracing global inspiration,’ said Hanno Barkhoff, General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra. ‘It is not just a bar or an à la carte restaurant but a reflection of who we are as a hotel and how we continuously evolve our food and beverage offerings.’

ASANA Bar and Kitchen is now open to the public. While the restaurant requires reservations, the bar warmly welcomes walk-ins and invites both hotel guests and residents to unwind, indulge and celebrate life’s little luxuries.

Burn Design Hub Joins AmCham Ghana

AmCham Ghana welcomes Burn Design Hub as our newest NGO member. Burn Design is a nonprofit organization headquartered in the United States, with a country office in Ghana. The organization is deeply committed to addressing the global issue of unsafe cooking practices that affect over two billion people. In many developing communities, women cook over open fires—often indoors—putting themselves and their families at risk of toxic smoke inhalation. This daily struggle not only endangers their health but also consumes time and energy that could be spent on education, work, or rest.

Through innovation and collaboration, Burn Design Lab is working to change this reality. They focus on designing and supporting the production of cleaner, more efficient cookstoves tailored to the needs of women who rely on open fires for cooking. By partnering with manufacturers, they help scale the production of environmentally conscious stoves, aiming to improve health, reduce hardship, and enhance the quality of life for countless families. Their impact is measured by the number of households reached and the tangible improvements in women’s health, wellbeing, and economic opportunities. AmCham Ghana looks forward to supporting Burn Design Hub’s mission and amplifying their impact across the region.

VAOB Group Limited Joins AmCham Ghana

AmCham Ghana is pleased to welcome VAOB Group Limited as our newest Gold Member.

VAOB Group Limited is a rapidly expanding multi-industry organization with extensive expertise in originating, structuring, and financing infrastructure projects across West Africa. Over the past four years, VAOB has played a pivotal role in securing nearly $300 million in funding for critical infrastructure projects across Sub-Saharan Africa. Their contributions span diverse sectors, including the supply of rolling stock, hospital construction, bridges, water systems, and other essential infrastructure developments.

Bridging the Infrastructure Gap: The VAOB Story

When our Chairman, Tony P. Burkson, returned to Ghana in 2016 after years in the UK, he saw a continent brimming with potential—yet held back by a familiar challenge: the lack of financing for critical infrastructure. As the founding CEO of the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, he worked closely with businesses, investors, and government agencies to drive economic growth. British companies sought to expand into Africa, Ghanaian businesses pursued international partnerships, and governments had bold visions for infrastructure development. However, time and again, projects faltered due to one fundamental issue—securing financing. Investors hesitated, wary of the lack of structured, bankable deals.

Tony soon realized the problem extended beyond capital—it was about connection. A gap existed between those in need of financing and those with the resources to provide it. African governments and private sector players often lacked the expertise to structure projects in a way that appealed to global investors. Meanwhile, financiers remained cautious, having witnessed too many promising initiatives collapse due to poor planning, corruption, or a lack of transparency. What was missing was a bridge—an entity capable of transforming ambitious infrastructure plans into well-structured, investable opportunities.

The Birth of VAOB Infrastructure Group

Thus, VAOB Infrastructure Group was established to become that bridge—the missing link between vision and execution. By leveraging an extensive network of global financial institutions, export credit agencies, and development banks, VAOB structures deals that attract long-term investment. Whether it’s a highway connecting communities, a state-of-the-art hospital improving healthcare, or an upgraded rail system facilitating trade, VAOB ensures that financing is no longer a barrier to Africa’s progress.

With a deep understanding of both local markets and international investment standards, VAOB has already secured over $400 million in funding for transformative projects. More than just raising capital, VAOB is restoring confidence in infrastructure financing by ensuring transparency, sustainability, and long-term value for both investors and governments.

Beyond Infrastructure: Expanding Our Impact

Recognizing the broader needs of Africa’s economic landscape, VAOB has since expanded, giving rise to two key subsidiaries:

· Verasure, a digitech-driven insurance brokerage, revolutionizing risk management and financial security.

· V-Rail, an engineering company specializing in the refurbishment, leasing, procurement, and supply of new and pre-owned rolling stock across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Our Commitment to Partnerships and Progress

As members of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), we look forward to fostering meaningful relationships, sharing our vision, and exploring new avenues for collaboration. Through the AmCham network, we aim to deepen our engagement, drive impactful partnerships, and contribute to Africa’s development journey.

Africa’s future is being built today—one project, one investment, one partnership at a time. At VAOB, we are not just funding development; we are shaping the foundation of progress.
